Isaiah 9: 6 and 7 proclaims the good news:
"For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;
And the government will rest on His shoulders;
And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace,
On the throne of David and over his kingdom,
To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness
From then on and forevermore.
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will accomplish this.
If you were to take a poll among Christians about what really took place at Christmas, I wonder what it might reveal.
Most would get the bare outline right.
God sent His Son...
He was born in a manger...
Some angels and shepherds came to see Him...
It was a glorious night with a bright star shining in the sky...
Oh yeah...some wise men came to see Him also and brought Him gifts...
But even if we have the basic outline down...many do not really understand what actually happened or the significance of it all.
Christmas is not merely about Christian dogma or theology.
What I want you to see and understand is that Christmas is supposed to be experienced in our individual lives...and as a result of that in our families...and as a result of that in our cities...and as a result of that in our nation...with the ultimate result that the entire world will experience the power and glory of Christmas!
There is such power in Christmas for you...for me...and for all who understand and walk in it's significance. All the power and glory of the Kingdom of God is ours. But this tremendous power and glory comes to us only as we understand and experience WHAT God did...and WHY He did it.
In Isaiah 9 there are three specific things that I want you to share with you. Three things you and I need to understand if we are going to experience the power and glory that God intended us to experience by sending His Son into the world.
